Had a bad fall from my horse two weeks ago. Fractured and dislocated C4/C5. Surgery was successful with no loss of function. Dr say not to ride again - don't thing that's going to happen. Any success stories of comebacks from injuries of this type and suggestions for protective riding gear would be very appreciated. Thanks

If you want to learn the best way to be come one with your horse, then you go to the best to be taught. I have only been riding about a year and having watched Chris on the RFD channel, I knew he was the one I wanted to train me & my horse. I have a 5 year old, blood bay gelding. He was trained as a two year old for cutting, but I'm just trying to learn to ride. Gallo is very smart, smarter than his owner, but he will help me to become a better rider. I can not say enough good things abouth Chris Cox, his clinics and his employees. Now I will tell you that you better be in good physicial condition (so exercise way before you go--walk alot) and you better be tough skin, after all you did not go there to tell him what you know, you went so you could learn what he knows! I will not go to anyother clinicianer other than Chris. His wife Barbara is also a great asset to his crew that works with you----Barb you are Great! One of Chris's main objective is to teach you safety and how to control your horse, these are very valuable lessons. Learn them! I encourage eveyone to go to this clinic especially if you are just starting to ride before you develop bad habits--bad habits are very hard to break, but they can be changed!
Don't give up!

I have had our pony for about a month and she won't let us catch her unless we have food. She was approachable at the place we got her from but once we got her home, she turns away when we walk up to her. I think she may have been abused at some point b/c she flinches and raises her head when pet. She's in a pasture with our gelding and even though he comes to us, she won't. Once we do catch her, usually with grain, she'll behave nicely. We've ridden her on a trail ride once and she did quite well. Once she's turned out, she's like a wild horse and won't let us get close. Any suggestions?

Hello fellow horse enthusiast. I purchased a 9 yr broodmare last fall. Having a hard time walking up and catching her. At time when walking up to her she has the bad habit of of turning her hindquarters to me. I'll swing my rope to her to turn around, but will never face me. Once in a halter she will do anything asked to do. Most of the time I have had to rope her to put the halter on, once the rope is on her neck she does good. Have tried a few other things, but no avail yet. Any other hints would be appreciated.

I have a question on how to get a 13 yr old broad mare to do what you want instead of what she wants. I have only been back riding for little over a year now after a bad accident and have worked all Chris's tapes and even went to his BRC clinic. All these things have help me greatly but this horse is putting me to the test every day. My 4yr old does better for me. examples-she continually jigs no matter where I'm at, now that I am back to cantering so is always going to the gates or other horses and stops. I have worked her at the gaits, barn you name it. She is making me work for the little bit of changes I get and it is starting to get on my last nerve. Before I went to Chris's clinic she wouldn't canter and then there she was like a race horse and wouldn't stop. Then I get back home and back to not wanting to again, but we worked through that with a few bucks here and there (that I stayed on through) I just wondering if there is anyone else having these problems. Thanks

Hi Everyone:
Just wanted to get opinions/advice on ointments for wounds/cuts. A bit overwhelmed with all that is out there - what has anyone used. Do you need one product for minor cuts and another for something more substantial?

I believe a lot in natural products if possible. I do use a commercial spray wound cleaner although I can't off hand remember the name. However, for healing, I found a gel at the health food store which a combination of aloe and comfrey. It's soothing and nonstinging since there's no alcohol. I get no resistance from my horse and the hair grows back well. Hope this helps.

Hello everyone!! I have never posted a thread ANYWHERE before so please bear with my ignorance. I have been watching my Chris Cox videos and have started disengaging the hind end on my niece's horse Shamrock. She seems to do pretty well but she blocks you with her face. I'm sure it is something I am doing wrong but I don't know what that is or how to correct the problem. She does disengage her hind end but every time she blocks with her face. Any help is appreciated. Also, Chris Cox makes it look so easy!! Thanks for everyones help. Stormi

Hello everyone
Well just got a new mare today, she is 7 mustang/palomino. I have 3 gelding, have had them for years. Put the mare in the stall for a little bit of all of them getting used to each other. When I let the mare out her and my QH gelding got into a kicking fit, the were really going at it. my youngest gelding could care less about her, and my oldest is a little aggressive, Captain my QH stands my her stall and they get along while she is in the stall. and he runs the other two off, pins his ears and gets agressive with them. How long whould I keep them apart of should I just let her out in the pasture and fight it out? I have had mares and gledings before but never this agression.

Hello from northern Vermont. I don't know about you but here we (human & Equine alike) are getting spring fever. I've been dying to spend some time in the barn but it's still pretty cold here to spend any length of time. My horses are really feeling their oats. Do you have any ideas on stall excersies to get the cob webs out of the brains & get prepared for back to work? Today it's nice and in the 30's but there is still a lot of ice so i'm not comfortable doing much out side yet. Any ideas/ suggestions would be great!

If any of you care to join us, you will need to register for blog talk radio to join in the live chat room, which I will be monitoring, or you can call into the show to listen in. Go to www.blogtalkradio.com/nhn . Hope to see some of you there, it should be a great show.
Sorry I found the forum so late, so for all of you who miss this, you can listen to the pod cast after the fact. Cheers.
